About Us

Matha Thama is an organic farming and retail business, looking to support food security, economic development and agricultural research in South Africa. We were founded in 2021. The company name is a combination of all the  director’s names so we always recognize how important each partner is to the growth of the business and what we hope to do. We are a 100% black owned business, and we are majority female owned.

Our farming business showcases aquaponics as one of the most effective methods worldwide of food production due to the mix of fish, vegetable and fruit being produced in a sustainable farming system. Our aim is to dominate the fruit and vegetable market locally and internationally by making use of aquaponics systems to grow organic produce.

To further corner more of the food supply chain we expanded our business model, and now we also operate as a market and retail business, sharing sustainably farmed products and produce with our health and environmentally conscious customers.

We sell delicious handcrafted products made from our own produce and sustainably farmed produce. In 2024, Matha Thama acquired KM Meats, a vibrant South African meat and biltong business that shared our values, beliefs and vision. We are committed to delivering the freshest, grass-fed A-grade sustainably farmed meat and biltong. Our meat is meticulously sourced from a trusted local supplier, ensuring every bite is of the highest quality.

When it comes to our prized biltong, we pride ourselves on our unique and intense flavour profiles, achieved through a carefully curated blend of spices. Each piece of biltong is a testament to our dedication to freshness, quality, and exceptional taste. Experience South Africa’s favourite snack like never before—where tradition meets innovation

We also host culinary rich pop-ups, and organise pre-arranged tours of the farm. We are exceptionally proud to say we grew up in South Africa, but our work, pride and love are global in nature. We want the chance to build a foundation that ensures no one goes hungry, there are more avenues for job creation, skills development, cultural exchanges, and entrepreneurship. We want to build a better nation through agriculture.
